ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Warren Buffett once said, “Entrepreneurship is living your life for several years like few people are willing to, so you can live the rest of your life like few people can.”

For many people, the early years of business ownership are the most difficult. Money may be going out before it starts coming in. The fear of setting out on your own may make a corporate job seem less risky. The fear of failure may keep you from moving forward. Yet today, working for someone else is not always the safe, secure path it once seemed to be. The question becomes: where are you likely to be better off in the long run?

I ask you not to give up before taking the time to actually learn about what it might take to buy or start a business. If you like the idea of owning a business, you owe yourself to investigate – don’t assume it isn’t doable.

I have been on the entrepreneurial side of business for more than 40 years and understand both the risks and the rewards.

The key to increasing your chances of success as your own boss is being clear about your work and life goals - especially the ones that are non-negotiable.

It is also important to plan carefully. Have you developed realistic financial projections and secured appropriate capitalization? Have you identified your transferable skills and completed a thoughtful market analysis? Have you considered whether a startup, the purchase of an existing business, or a franchise is the best vehicle for you?

We can help you define your work and life goals to help you with these decisions.

As part of Career Coach Plus, I welcome the opportunity to speak with you about the steps toward small-business ownership and whether entrepreneurship may be the right path for you.
